Stigma of spiders.

People grow up thinking the worst of spiders, a lot of people have said to me that spiders bite humans and run fast.  This is true but not as people think; depending on the situation a number of actions can happen so we will take the situation as... your sitting at home, you go to grab your drink off the table and a black widow is sitting there.  As you move your hand, due to a spiders poor eye sight will see a large shadow moving towards them and they know its bigger than them so they are more than likely run away, if it decided to be a kamikaze spider and you still have not seen the spider then as you move your hand closer it will rear up and open its front legs to display its fangs.  We will say that's its still not moved and as you go to pick up the glass your hand gets very close to the spider, it might now feel threatened and then attack administering the venom.

As with most spiders whether it be prey trapped in the web or the spider wandering around if they think its too big or they will end up worse off they will leave it/free it.  In some cases it might run away to the retreat to hide.  If they think they are safe then prey trapped in its web will be bitten to inject poison and once again they will retreat till the insect is dead, they will then wrap it up.  In the case of humans or other spiders they would rear up and spread the front pair of legs to make hem look bigger and to also show its fangs.  Due to the way poison/venom is made they would inject as a last result as they need the food to make the venom.

Insects that contain a stinger e.g. wasp or hornet would either be left or they will cut it away as the stinger is more of a threat and will kill a spider.

Once bitten:
Lets take it you have now you have been bitten you turn and see the spider run off and not sure what type it is then I would advise not sitting around get to a doctor or the ER/A&E.  If you have something to catch the spider in without risking another bite then try and do so as this will result in faster anti-venom treatment.  With technology these days most mobile phones have a camera so you could always try and take a picture.
