Anatomy of a spider.
Spiders have a complex body structure both internal and external so let’s start with the outside and the hairs,
THE SPIDER'S SENSE OF TOUCH:
A spider has the very basic ways to feel things and to
see but to us they might sound strange, a spider will use hairs all over its
body for different tasks. Some are for smell sensing and some are for picking
up vibrations. The spiders eyes can only see black and white and there vision is
very limited so the hairs tell them about food and other things like other
spiders e.g. Potential mate or a threat.
The spider has a good sense of touch because of relying on the hair sensation
and some of these are: being able to tell when they have prey is trapped in its
webs by the fast jolty movements that's in one place and not waste energy going
from the retreat to the web for nothing but wind, rain or snow. Also the female
spiders have hairs that pick up the vibrations of a male plucking at the web
giving them a signal NOT to eat it.
THE SPIDER'S HAIR & ITS FUNCTIONS:
All of the hairs on a spider 's body do not do the same thing some hairs help the spider hold on to different kinds of surfaces e.g. Some can climb smooth surfaces and others cant there are also ones that can sit on water. Each of these holding hairs divide into thousands of smaller hairs which are like many tiny hands, giving the spider a better grip. Other types of hairs are used by spiders as little combs to keep their silk from getting tangled.
SENSORY ORGANS:
The eyes: a lot of people would say a spider has eight eyes well yes and no!, some have six and some have eight but with most spiders their vision is very short and not good at all. The jumping spider group have a good eye sight and have two large eyes they give them their good vision, ( note see pic). With spiders being an "odd" species they mostly live with the brain working only on vibrations.
HOW SPIDER LEGS WORK:
There are seven segments to a spider's legs and this make them more flexible than human legs, which only have two segments. Like humans, spiders have muscles that bend the legs closer to the body. However, spiders do not have muscles that move the legs away from the body. Each time a spider needs to stretch a leg back out, it must pump fluid into that leg. Then, to bend the leg back, pressure is relaxed and the fluid flows out of the leg as the muscles do their work.
THE EXTERNAL ANATOMY:
Most of this is covered in moulting about the exoskeleton, in addition of the external anatomy they have there palps for sexing with the females, there very big when immature and as they mature they start to become very good sex organs.(note!).
